The verb be is used as an auxiliary verb and it can also be used as a main verb. See Types of main verb.
The verb be is irregular. It has eight different forms: be, am, is, are, was, were, being, been. The present simple and past simple tenses make more changes than those of other verbs.
* Positive
They live in a flat in London.
He sings with a band.
I work in a bookstore.
She listens to music every evening.
* Negative
He doesn't speak Spanish.
We don't live in Madrid.
She doesn't go to bed until 4 o'clock in the morning.
I don't watch TV every evening.
* Yes/No questions
Do you relax at weekends? Yes, I do.
Does he work in London? No, he doesn't.
Does she like cooking? Yes, she does.
Do you travel far to work? No, we don't.
* Wh- Question
Where do they live?
How many jobs does she have?
When does he get up in the morning?
What do you do on Tuesday evenings?
* Adverbs of frequency

These adverbs usually come before the main verb.
They come after the verb to be.
* When like and love are followed by another verb.
it is usually the -ing form.
